“For admirers of Jerome Robbins — or of Amanda Vaill, the author of a well-received biography of Gerald and Sara Murphy — the other shoe, or brick, has fallen. Two years after the dance critic Deborah Jowitt came forth with her widely admired, 619-page “Jerome Robbins: His Life, His Theater, His Dance,” Vaill has trumped her, at least in terms of quantity, with her “Somewhere: The Life of Jerome Robbins.” It weighs in at 675 pages.”
